Ram, I read your comment asking me to add “Mahabharata” in Malayalam. As you may be aware, Mahabharata has nearly 100000 slokas. Though the Sanskrit text of Mahabharata is available online and it could be converted to Malayalam fairly easily, proof reading all the one lakh slokas will be too much work unless there is a very large. The first autobiography I've read, and I really enjoyed it. Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is a source of infinite pride and inspiration for every aspiring youths and in particular , young scientists.
A really motivative book which gives us a glimpse of the two sides of a bright golden coin, one is Dr. Kalam as a fine , compassionate , humble, optimistic and a highly respectable human being, the other side, an extraordinarily skillful, imaginative and a 100% dedicated scientist and a leader.

'If I had seen any further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants' said a 12th century being which suits synonymous to the story of Avul Pakir Jainulabdin Abdul Kalam who had become a giant himself in the domains of Defense, Space Rocketry and Atomic Energy Research.
The Vicariously written autobiography didn't seem to find the light completely as the writer Arun Tiwari was involved full time in penning down the experiences of Dr. Kalam. The artificial flavors were revealed at several mome

This is the first Autobiography I have read. I had high expectations as I admire Sir Kalam's image. But I will be biased on the side of a layman reader in this quick review.
Review:
In my opinion, one cannot write a negative review about an autobiography. Any achievement- big or small is an achievement and only The All Knowing knows how much effort an individual puts in achieving a particular goal. And Sir Kalam's achievements by no scale are small. 'The Missile Man of India' has a lot of medals o

The biography of a renowned rocket scientist. Hailing from Rameswaram island in TN, Dr Kalam had a toughening childhood, which he was immensely grateful for. The book takes you through his life, from his early childhood through youth till his retirement.
It would better be the biography of Indian rocketry, for Dr. Kalam speaks more about his rockets than about himself. With an awe-inspiring description of eminent scientists and engineers who happened to be his contemporaries and acquaintances, t

I tried, tried and tried but I just couldn't finish this book.I gave up at the last or the second chapter from the last. I just couldn't keep going. This book is a biography of this great personality Kalam Sir, that's why I guess it is rendered as so revered but if you look at it from literary point of view it is tedious and monotonous (monotonous in the sense that all it talks about is rocket science, I mean I get it, this man's life revolves around rocketry but this book is supposed to be biog..more

I have utmost respect for the former president of my country and the great scientist, nevertheless a great impeccable personality, Dr. A P J ABDUL KALAM, but his autobiography is definitely overhyped.
I have heard from some of my friends that how great this book is, but i found it quite boring.
It definitely throws a light on the life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who really excelled in his field and received the highest civilian honour of india, despite being from a small town & humble background.

This book is a must read for every Indian to know one of the greatest men of our country. It is inspiring to know how a common man like Abdul Kalam wrote his destiny with hard work and perseverance, and with that took rocketry in India to new heights. This autobiography doesn't only give account of his life, but also of the great minds like Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan, Brahm Prakash and many more. This autobiographical account gets a bit technical due to in-depth explanation of rocketry, miss..more

An inspiration for a nation's people constantly bogged down by socio-economic issues!
As motivating as it was, it was quite dragging given the technical nature of the writing and the domain of rocketry. However it is a peek into his personal life which was solely and completely focused on his work-it practically defined him, leaving no scope for any other aspects of regular life.
It portrays real humility in attributing credit where it is really due - to the person who welded parts of the machines

Interesting book on several levels. First, as a biography of Kalam: a Muslim in India with humble beginnings as an engineer who eventually led the rocket and missle development efforts of the country. Kalam maintains a spiritual base as he heads the mainly military and nationalistic projects therein. Never deals with any conflicts between his spirituality and the military nature of his work, nor the conflict of being a Muslim in a Hindu dominated country. This is a disappointment as his perspect..more

I have an immense respect for APJ Kalam but somehow this book doesn't do justice to the charm and charisma of Kalam.
The real gem of book lies in excerpts of poems which have been aptly compiled and written upto.

This isn't an autobiography so much as it is a series of musings about life, science and religion, engineering project management, leadership, and Indian nationalism (I mean that in a positive way; it was interesting to think about how the indigenous space program of India means as much to them as America's does to us) loosely strung together by a narrative of Kalam's work in rocketry and nuclear weapons. The book pre-dates his presidency, so it's missing that major concluding chapter in his lif..more

A very inspirational reading.
Will make every Indian proud, reading it.
The great man is so humble that, although he calls it the story of his life, which he has spent/ dedicated to Space Research, Missile Development, Atomic Energy research etc.
He talks very little about his personal life, except occasionally when he had to rush home for some emergency or an important function.
Though it becomes a little technical in the end, still his thoughts on team work, innovation, thinking out of the box, ac

I absolutely loved the book. Yes, despite the fact that the book is more about India's journey to Rocket science, despite the fact that I did not understood a major chunk of the sentences, I was not able to put it down till I finished reading it.

took a long time finishing! simply because its a book plainly told, without any frills or fancies! the man who does the telling single handed took Indian research and technology to a level where it is revered! the simplicity and dedication of this man is humbling, who India has been fortunate to have as a president too!
must read for Indian techies or anybody interested in how a man lives by what he believes in!

It was a long time ago that i read this book but what remains is a passion that burned forth from its pages. The author a once scientist and the former president of India among other things had a vision for the entire nation. The book, autobiographical in nature tells the tale of a man who embodied simplicity but lived in a higher plane of thought than us mere mortals

It is a good book but a little boring one, no offense to the author. One who is a Mechanical/Chemical engineer may be able to enjoy it better. The only downside is the jargon of aeronautic words used in it.

The is amazing and will totally inspire you. But as for the stars the book talks in depth about Sir Abdul Kalam's work and for some part where he has described in such detail about the engineering work that its too much to take in. But apart for that a book worth reading.
I would share a few lines from the book which in itself speaks about it’s weight.

A humbling read. His accomplishments and vision are unmatched as is his modesty. Pleasantly (and wonderfully) surprised by his deeply spiritual side; and oh, what a beautiful poet! The technical details and matter-of-fact narration made me impatient in parts, but I think in retrospect that the non-glamorous narration style perhaps fit the man better than anything else. The reader gets to read about his life starting from a small town in Rameshwaram to becoming a scientist, and lastly, one of the presidents of India.

I liked this book. I wanted to like it more to be honest. I absolutely love the personality of Dr. Kalam and was teary eyed to hear of his death. This is his autobiography and I heard it as an udiobook on storytel narrated by Girish Karnad. At 180 pages, and audio length of less than 2 hours, I went through it fairly quickly.
I would have liked more depth and details from Dr. Kalam. That's my only issue with the book.
I hope everyone gets to know what a great man he was.
